Directors Quirks: Supercuts by Kogonada

Kogonada is a rather mysterious (because the only thing we know about the editor is, their user name Kogonada! Nice.) Vimeo user who has created what are being called ‘Supercuts’ by The Creators Project. Supercuts because these are sort of video essays showcasing the different shooting styles used by famous directors. This is some serious time consuming work. I only noticed the “from below” Tarantino perspective, throughout Inglorious Basterds, other than that, its very weird that even after watching most of his movies a number of times, I didn’t notice this quirk.

There are four of these videos, with the latest one being Stanley Kubrick’s “One Point Perspective“.

Here is my favorite director Tarantino’s “From Below” perspective

Kogonada has also put together a video focusing on Wes Anderson’s “From Above” and Breaking Bad’s “POV” perspectives. Check them out over at Kogonada’s Vimeo.

  1. I’ve always wanted to learn how the directors were able to pull off such excellent points of view with their shots! Thanks so much for sharing these pieces of information. I’m going to have a good look through all of them!
